PITCH REPORT
Sharjah Cricket Stadium, located in Sharjah, UAE, is one of the most iconic cricket venues in the Middle East. Known for its rich history and high-scoring T20 matches, the stadium is a popular venue for international tournaments, including the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Key Features and Pitch Report:
Dimensions: Sharjah is a relatively small ground, with boundary dimensions of around 62 meters straight and 65 meters square. This layout makes it a favorable venue for batsmen, encouraging aggressive stroke play and high-scoring matches.
Pitch Behaviour: The pitch at Sharjah typically offers good batting conditions, especially in the second innings when dew can be a factor. Teams chasing often have an advantage as the ball comes onto the bat better under lights. However, in the first innings, the pitch can sometimes turn sticky, making it slightly challenging for batsmen and bringing spinners into the game..
Toss Factor: Historically, chasing has been more successful at Sharjah, with 82 matches won by teams batting second compared to 67 by teams batting first in T20 matches.
Records:
Highest T20 Score: Balkh Legends scored 244/6 against Kabul Zwanan in the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League.
Best Individual Batting Performance: Colin Ingram’s 127* for Karachi Kings against Quetta Gladiators in the 2019 Pakistan Super League.
Best Bowling Figure: Ravi Bopara’s 6/16 for Karachi Kings against Lahore Qalandars in the 2016 Pakistan Super League.
Capacity and Popularity:
The stadium can host up to 16,000 spectators and is known for its electrifying atmosphere during high-stakes matches. With its unique blend of small boundaries and batting-friendly pitches, Sharjah has witnessed some memorable moments and records in cricket history.
