PITCH REPORT
Simonds Stadium, also known as GMHBA Stadium, is located in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Primarily recognized as a venue for Australian rules football, it has also hosted several cricket matches, including T20 Internationals and domestic T20 games.
Pitch Characteristics:
Batting Surface: The pitch at Simonds Stadium is generally considered favorable for batting, offering a flat surface that allows the ball to come onto the bat nicely, facilitating stroke play.
Pace vs. Spin: While the pitch supports batsmen, it also provides assistance to pace bowlers, especially under lights when conditions can offer movement. Spinners may find limited turn, making it crucial for them to focus on accuracy and variations.
T20 Statistics:
Average First Innings Score: In T20 Internationals, the average first innings score at Simonds Stadium is approximately 147 runs.

Lowest Total: The lowest T20I total is 73 all out by the United Arab Emirates.
Match Outcomes: Out of 7 T20I matches played, teams batting first have won 4 times, while teams chasing have secured victory on 3 occasions, indicating a slight advantage for setting a target.
Recent Matches:
In recent Big Bash League (BBL) matches, the pitch has produced varied scoring encounters:
On January 11, 2022, Perth Scorchers posted 196/3 against Melbourne Stars, showcasing the pitch’s potential for high scores.
Conversely, on December 30, 2022, Melbourne Renegades were restricted to 124/7, with Sydney Sixers chasing it down comfortably, highlighting that disciplined bowling can be rewarding.
PERFECT LINEUP
Conclusion:
Simonds Stadium offers a balanced pitch that slightly favors batsmen but provides opportunities for bowlers who can exploit the conditions effectively. Captains winning the toss might prefer to bat first, aiming to set a competitive total around or above the average first innings score of 147, considering the ground’s history and recent match outcomes.
